At First Baptist church, our membership holds a shared body of beliefs called our Doctrinal Statement. Find ours listed below. A copy of our constitution and by-laws are available upon request.
1. We believe that every word of the Holy Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. 2 Peter 1:20, 21 2 Timothy 3:16
2. We believe in one eternal, sovereign, triune God, existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in being, nature, power and glory. 2 Cor. 3:14 Gen. 1:26
3. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is God the Son, We believe that he is sinless and became man without ceasing to be God having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
John 1:1, 2, 14 Luke 1:35
4. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as our substitutionary sacrifice. 1 Peter 2:24 Eph. 1:7
5. We believe in His literal, physical resurrection from the dead and that Christ ascended to heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God the Father. 1 Peter 1:3-5
6. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and that He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. John 16:8-11
7. We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Gen. 1:26,27 Rom. 3:23 5:12
8. We believe that salvation is the gift of God offered to man by grace and received through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Eph. 2:8,9 John 1:12
9. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. John 10:27-29
10. We believe that speaking in tongues and sign-miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established.
11. We believe that the ordinances of the church are 1) the baptism of the believer by immersion in water and 2) the Communion of the Lord’s Supper. Luke 22:19,20 Acts 8:37-39
